disputing neoliberal formulations of globalization as inevitable benign process that leads to economic growth for all and warning of its dangers. The volume begins with critiques of the ideology underlying neoliberal conceptions of globalization, addressing issues of poverty and inequality, labor market dynamics, and international finance architectures, among other topics. The next set of papers assails neoliberal globalization from the perspective of sustainability and discusses environmental despoliation, the inadequacy of proposed world environmental organizations, alternative banking structures, and urbanization. Others approach the issues from the standpoint of gender, tackling such issues as the expansion of women's paid work, the international division of reproductive labor, labor standards and women's rights, the gender composition of employment and growth dynamics, and similar topics. Remaining papers are grouped under the heading "risks and threats associated with globalization" and explore electronic money and the casino economy, evolving threats of infectious disease, the global war "on terrorism" and its economic effects, and Western cultural hegemony, among other topics.
