Technician. A person who cares for people with mental disorders. To be a Psychiatric Technician or PTC, requires at least one year training in both classroom and clinical supervision in a medical facility and passing the licensure examination in some states of the USA. The training must be state approved and is offered by vocational schools and community colleges. A PTC is hired to care for people who have mental disorder under the direction and supervision of registered nurses and physicians. The duties involve implementation of the treatment plans that were developed by psychiatrists and other mental healthcare professionals. Such duties include reporting changes in physical and mental status, issues related to medication and treatment regimen, record keeping or documentation, and counseling.
