career-oriented programs, business, and diversity. Here, real-world experiences are partnered with knowledgeable professors who have more information about the industry they are teaching than any textbook you will read. It shocks most, but not all FIT students are future fashion designers a lot are business and technology students. The college was founded in 1944 to prepare men and women for work in the fashion industry as it grew in size and scope over the years, so have the programs and degrees. FIT now offers over 35 degree programs, not only in fashion and its related fields, but also in other industries with New York City as their focal point. Students here prepare to meet business head-on, and a majority are involved in career preparing internships. Many prominent designers learned their craft here. The programs at FIT focus on art, design, and the business and technology industries. FIT is actually composed of several smaller schools art and design, business and technology, continuing and professional studies, graduate studies, and liberal arts. Many are unaware that FIT is a public school and that it receives both state and local funding. FIT holds membership in the State University of New York system, but it does not use the name to identify itself. When coming to this school, you need to step it up and focus hard. The weak will not survive here. FIT was the right choice for me. My goal for this book is to help you see if FIT fits you. Heather M. DiRubba, Author
