Milholland, a charismatic, thirty-year-old attorney, was a recognized and beloved leader in the New York woman suffrage movement when she suddenly collapsed and died in late 1916 while on a grueling speaking tour for the 19th Amendment. Using suffragists own words, Remembering Inez pays tribute to this beautiful young activist and the historic movement of which she was an important part. The book features stirring first-person accounts, heartfelt memorials, and Inez's historic "Appeal to the Women Voters of the West," rescued from the pages of history. In this classic speech, she passionately advocated gender solidarity among women and called for a controversial boycott of Democratic candidates because their party refused to support the suffrage amendment. Heralded as a martyr to the cause of women's equality, Inez came to symbolize the unrelenting commitment and personal sacrifices that finally won the vote for women in 1920. Remembering Inez also includes 24 photographs of Inez and her time, and closes with a poem by Carl Sandburg. Also available as an e-book. About the Author Robert P. J. Cooney, Jr. is Director of the Woman Suffrage Media Project and author of Winning the Vote: The Triumph of the American Woman Suffrage Movement. Author Robert P. J. Cooney Jr. has done an excellent job in assembling this memorial to a woman whose contribution to the political emancipation of women has been obscured and who now is brought back to the deserved attention of a whole new generation of readers. Exceptionally well organized and presented, "Remembering Inez" is very highly recommended for personal, community, and academic library collections. The Midwest Book Review, December 2014
