The first 44 lessons relate to the dual objective of helping the student both acquire and apply the skill of manual communication. Each of the first 44 lessons presents the following: (a) a visual illustration of a given letter or sign, (b) a written description associated with a particular letter or sign, and (c) practice material involving both encoding and decoding processes with answers provided for the latter. The last four lessons help the student apply the material in the preceding lessons to the areas of hearing, speech, and language.
