The second topic covered was control of enzymatic processes with a review of enzyme inhibition, and papers on renin inhibitors and the synthesis of amino-sugar inhibitors of glycosidases. The third session covered antiviral agents including a paper on zidovudine (AZT), the first drug of clinical value in combatting the HIV virus. The fourth topic was an examination of antibacterial, antifungal and antiparasitic agents, including a papers on avermectins and the new antifungal agent fluconazole. The final session contained papers illustrating the use of computational chemistry with particular reference to the prospective value of computational techniques in the search for new bio-active molecules.
