His purpose was to bring about a new creative union between the former and the latter by founding his thought on the transcendent identity he believed was basic to both. Visionary Science contains Victor Nuovo's fresh translation of Tillich's text as it was published and Nuovo's interpretive essay which is both critical and constructive. Nuovo attempts to appropriate Tillich's program while avoiding his inconsistencies of formulation and motive. The objective, presented only in outline, is a reflective faith which is itself attentive to and part of a worldly culture.
