very useful. To help the learning process, we have completely reorganized the text to follow the theme on page vi of the book. This is followed through by a summary statement at the beginning of each of the six parts of the text. Usually the first paragraph of each chapter contains a summary of its contents, and each section likewise has a summary. Scattered throughout the text are "study boxes" designed to review each topic discussed in detail. All these features are in- tended for quick reading, quick review, and rapid learning. The user may go very rapidly through the entire book reading high- lights, he may move more slowly reading summaries, or he may spend time reading the details. In this way we have presented a "world's fair" of plant science, where one may spend a day or a semester or, upon completion of this study, decide to spend a lifetime. When you have finished using the book, we hope you will be better able to call earth "Man's World" because you will have learned more about it and will want to treat it as if it were your own.
